Do you have enough inner peace and confidence to walk outside without make-up on? How about without a relaxer or a perm?
Could you exist in the world starting from the inside out?
And if you couldn’t exist without one of these things… why couldn’t you? Fear? Embarrassment? Shame?
Is there one specific thing about the way you look that makes you feel like you’re compromising who you are by doing it?
What specifically about you are you covering up that you’re afraid to show?
There are plenty of people that will encourage you to hide behind the real part of who you are. Which is why I’m offering you this small insight today.
It is a way to encourage you to obtain inner peace by pursuing the natural part of who you are.
The majority of natural beauty tips tell you how to disguise your own unique beauty that God gave you but I want to help you find a way to discover it.
Natural Beauty isn’t the beauty you get from a tube of eyeliner or lipstick. It is a beauty and inner peace that radiates from within you and extends outward. And it does not need to be altered or enhanced with accessories.
We all have certain toxic elements in our lives that distract us from achieving inner peace. So today I wanted to make a special point to talk about them. So that you can get a clearer understanding of things.
Just about all of us spend so much time trying to live our lives to please everyone else but ourselves. And even to go further, we live a less emotionally comfortable life so that we can feel comfortable externally.
Internally we are like scrambled eggs in order to feel confident about the way we look externally so that others will respond to us better. And that makes us feel compliant with the way of the world. Like we fit in.
But when we do that we sometimes compromise an extremely important part of our being. We compromise an inner peace and confidence that is vital to who we are.
When we quietly steal from ourselves in order to be accepted by others this silence leads to little voices that tell us that we are never good enough in the current state that we are in.
We move so far away from the inner peace that guides us in the right direction that it is not long before we are trying to look beautiful on the outside to disguise the ugliness we feel for ourselves on the inside.
It is a way in which we cover up our own self-contempt.
And although all of us will not be what is considered pretty to many people it is safe to say that just about all of us are still afraid of the idea of being ugly.
Since what we all consider to be ugly differs there is no real solid definition. Only common attributes.
But for so many of us ugly is a state of mind. And quite often it is something we personally fear or dislike rather than being something that is tangible to everyone.
For you, this fear might be having your hair styled a certain way or not having it styled a certain way. Not wearing makeup, not wearing certain clothes, and the list goes on.
But by applying the suggestions it might help you see these things differently in order to obtain an inner peace that your soul has longed for so long.
The goal is not only to get you to have a more accepting idea of what is beautiful, but it is also to encourage you to attempt to do something that you may have always been too afraid to do. And most importantly it is to lead you to a path of obtaining inner peace.
Instead of encouraging you to run from your definition of ugly I’m encouraging you to look the part.
“You must be crazy,” you might say.
No, I just believe it is not an unreasonable request for you to be able to step out in the world and feel comfortable enough with yourself on the inside to be able to walk around without makeup on if you’re a woman. Or perhaps to go out without a hat on to cover up your hair loss if you’re a man.
I’m suggesting that maybe instead of trying to cover these things up you can find a cozy way to ease them into your life so they can be something you are proud of instead of ashamed of.
It can be very uncomfortable when we hide things about ourself so I’m only trying to give you a push in the right direction.
I understand you may have wanted to take this step for a long time, but may have been too afraid to. But disguising these things are no more comfortable than revealing them. Both actions require a certain sacrifice, but both do not lead to emotional freedom and inner peace.
Behind looking our best there’s often the worry of how others will see us if we don’t look a certain way. And the worry of how we will see ourselves.
You may care what others think right now, but in time you’ll ease into it comfortably. And eventually you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it a long time ago. Because the inner peace you get from being honest with yourself and others will be one of the most gratifying rewards in your life.
The more you stop rebelling against your own emotional freedom the less you’ll look at others and care about how they view you.
You will no longer view yourself through how you think others see you. And surprisingly, you may find out that you were the only one who thought less of yourself under those conditions.
Sometimes your biggest enemy is yourself.
What you need to do is contemplate why you fear it so much and then embrace it gradually by allowing yourself to actually look that way one step at a time until your fear subsides.
You don’t have to stampede into achieving some sort of inner peace as if it itself were a fashion statement or fad. Just relax and go with the flow and release some of the internal discomforts a step at a time.
The endeavor you take to embrace your form of “ugliness” to find beauty in it will run its course. And then the freedom and inner peace will come.
I’ve come up with a few suggestions that may help in your walk toward achieving inner peace.
But before I suggest these things you may want to read this quick story at Motown Girl’s Hair Diary for encouragement. Even if you aren’t African American it may help you get an idea of the courage it takes to be real with yourself.
Once you’ve taken the time to read her story, you may want to put these following suggestions in action to help you ease into a natural you…
- Always remember this is something you don’t have to do until you’re absolutely tired of living an emotional lie. That is if you feel like you’re living one.
- Never put a time limit on when you have to do this. Remember that you’ve got as long as you live. And when you’re ready you can start.
- Think about the less natural things about yourself that you’ve been hiding that make you feel ugly and uncomfortable. And imagine if you had no choice but to live with those things out in the open. How relieved would you feel if these things were no longer hidden? Weigh the pros and cons of disguise against no longer hiding them while keeping in mind that both decisions require sacrifice, but only one of them leads to emotional freedom.
- Research the subject before taking action and see if you can come up with a comfortable way to live with the natural you. An example would be, if you’re African American and you decide you want to go natural by getting rid of the relaxer in your hair. You would need to find out what you could do with your hair in its natural state. Many people might consider dreadlocks, braids, or the two-strand twist. Another example would be, if you’re a man and you’re going bald, an idea would be to shave your hair off completely or have it trimmed nicely to always look very clean cut. As many people say, it’s what you do with what you have that counts.
- Also, keep in mind that there’s a place where comfort and society meet. You can adjust your look according to both standards. An example would be if you wear make-up and you’re uncomfortable without it. Instead of going completely natural without any make-up, you could wear as little make-up as possible. Remember that each crutch can be adjusted for comfort to help you get past whatever emotional disability you have.
- Make your decision. Are you ready to make that step? If not, put it to the side and come back to it later. Maybe you’ll be ready in the future.
As a rule of thumb always try to remember that it’s not our appearances that need to be changed. It’s our eyes and how we see each other and ourselves.
It took me years to start finding my own inner peace and natural beauty. It doesn’t always happen overnight. Slowly it starts making an impression until you’re emotionally prepared to take action.
There’s nothing wrong with deciding not to do these things. This information wasn’t presented to condemn if you are against doing them. It’s here to help you if you want to change your lifestyle in this manner so you can finally obtain the type of inner peace you’ve always longed for.
And if you aren’t interested in doing anything about them now, it doesn’t mean that you can’t change your mind.
Someday you may be ready.
